Seven steps, in the order you meet them. No subscription to see the spots, and no account needed to browse the map.

- Phase onePlan the route
01Set the journey
Plan your journey
Pick your starting point and your destination. Overnighter works out the route between them — the same road you were going to drive anyway.

Discover places along the way
This is the bit that is hard to do any other way. Instead of searching town by town along a 200-mile drive, Overnighter sweeps a corridor of roughly five miles either side of the route and shows you what is in it. Spots further away stay on the map, but they are not offered as stops — they would mean a detour you did not plan.

Choose your stops
Photos from people who parked there, what kind of place it is, what it costs, the facilities, and reviews from other members — with the review count beside every rating, so you can see what a score is based on. Enough to tell a quiet forestry lay-by from one beside a main road.

Build your route
Add a spot and it becomes a stop on the journey — dropped into the position it falls along the route, not tacked onto the end. Add up to five stops and you have a multi-stop road trip in the order you will actually drive it, with the distance and drive time worked out again for the whole journey each time you change it.

Take the route with you
When the route is right, send it — start, every stop, destination — straight to Google Maps and drive it with the navigation you already use. Save the route at the same time so it is still there when you get back, and share it with a link if somebody is coming with you.
